NUTRICULA | Impossible Actions puts the performers through a series of tasks that aim to test and re-imagine the limits and functions of the body and deconstruct (un)conscious habits of movement.

This work aims to liberate the body and its movements from meanings imposed on them. The workshop includes movement exercises, critical discussions, creative writing and an introduction to the structure of the physical solo.

Call for Participants

The workshop is open to everyone interested to go through an introduction of the working method and develop their own version of the solo, as well as to those curious about the dynamics of working in a group. The workshop includes movement exercises, critical discussions, creative writing and an introduction to the structure of the physical solo. The work deals with the dynamic between global and local within the performer’s body, with the way the socio-political reality and the personal biography inform the process, with the possibility of the performer to claim space beyond the concept. It also addresses horizontal working processes and the tensions between the individual and the collective.

Yasen Vasilev works in the field of contemporary dance and performance as a maker, dramaturg and critic. NUTRICULA is the practical research of his master thesis on the politics of dance from Shanghai Theatre Academy. Since 2018 he’s a contributing author for Springback magazine, works with Belgian choreographer Ehsan Hemat and with the artist-run residency space Radar Sofia. He also holds a BA in Dramaturgy, published four poetry collections and four plays and won the audience award at Sofia:Poetics 2010 and the CEI Fellowship in 2020.

IMPOSSIBLE ACTIONS was prototyped in residencies in Taipei artist village and La Caldera, Barcelona in 2019, and first produced in 2021 by Radar Sofia and Drama Pact at DNK – a space for contemporary dance and performance in Sofia, Bulgaria with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, followed by new versions with local performers at Moving body festival (Varna, BG), CoFestival (Ljubljana, SI), Rosendal teater / DansiT (Trondheim, NO) in season 2021-2022. It received the annual award of the City Hall of Sofia in September 2021.
