Malta Café Scientifique: Racing Through Time

Throughout history motorsport enthusiasts have witnessed the evolution of car racing – from the first race held in 1895 between Paris and Bordeaux, to modern day Formula 1 racing at Silverstone, from the Chevrolet Corvette to the brand new Mercedes W11 on the race track. Where is motorsport heading now? 

What factors actually affect engine performance? The answer may not be that simple. What is so mesmerizing about a powerful V10 car engine to those who appreciate the sport? What actually goes into making a dynamic race car? Once you get to know the science behind motorsport, you can start to appreciate how the combination of speed and sound are interesting phenomena to car and motorsport enthusiasts. 

On Wednesday 14th April 2021, citizens are invited to our virtual event where Prof. Robert Ghirlando will be giving a talk about this fascinating topic including stories of what goes on behind the scenes. The University of Malta racing team will be sharing their experience on building dynamic race cars. The event will start at 7 pm with two talks followed by a discussion.
