Dates:        Space A –  13th September – 6th November 2019 Space C –  13th September – 3rd November 2019 Venue: Space A and Space C, Spazju Kreattiv Free Entrance The Video Vortex XII exhibition forms part of ongoing programme of events around aspects of video art, presently showcasing the ever changing boundaries in today’s representations of contemporary art within the realm of digital, internet, virtual and interactive art, to name a few. This year, Video Vortex aims to discuss these developments by taking a closer look at cohesions which were compelled into mainstream movements. The Video Vorter XII exhibition is also an integral part of the 12th Video Vortex conference, taking place at Spazju Kreattiv during the last weekend of September 2019. Moving beyond an academic environment involving the infinite loop that exists between art research and art making will help the audience view the works in this exhibition for what they are: works of visual art that have an intended (and in some cases unintended) aesthetic impact on whoever views them.  The useful contextual element that is missing for anyone visiting the exhibition outside the days of the Video Vortex conference is the possibility to get further insight into the works from some of the video-makers themselves. The exchange of ideas around the works and the sharing of various perspectives by different video-makers interested in related themes, or who engage similar techniques, is indeed a crucial part of what this Video Vortex exhibition is all about. Until not too long ago, these aspects of new media art were seen as something from a distant future. The future is definitely now.  This exhibition would not have been possible without the willingness of the Video Vortex founders and keepers to bring this gathering to Malta. The Department of Digital Art at the University of Malta continues to establish this art form steadily through collaborations with the Institute of Network Cultures and Spazju Kreattiv to engender this global phenomenon locally. The growing interest in video art in the Malta art scene is also an essential magnet for the presentation of this exhibition.    Toni Sant Artistic Director
